"Hey BA - we heard you had quite a weekend - are you reverting back to some old habits?"
1. We had a company party on Friday night, downtown San Diego -
This was the first event like this that have I attended, without a wife or a date, in about 40 years - at the start of the night, I felt like a college freshman - participating in some sort of fraternity rush party for the first time. I just kindda wandered around with a couple of Cuba Libres [Cuba Libres are adult drinks, not hot looking, female, Cuban exiles] in EACH hand.
I think that after I slugged down about 5 gallons of Bacardi, I became a bit more fun, at least that's what I remember - I hope that the last dance I shared with a beautiful blond was as much fun for her as it was for me - I hope!
2.
I didn't get into the water until about 8:00 am on Saturday - and I was reminded, ever so loudly - by my throbbing head - as to why I gave up - many years ago - the party and drinking lifestyle. [of course having 3 kids is also a pretty darn good reason for abstinence / moderation]
When I did finally get out into the water - whew - Stirney's was firing - then I paddled down to The Shoe - double whew -
I thought that maybe the south swell had missed LJ again - but as I was sitting at The Shoe, I could see Twang - so as if Cobb's and The Shoe hadn't been enough for me, I made a quick trip to Wind**Sea - triple whew -
It's days like this that I wish I had a better camera, but when the choice is gas at $3.00 / gallon, or taking better photos - I ain't got much choice - fill up the gas tank - not the memory chips - at least I still have a fairly efficient internal memory bank inside the cranium.
3. This morning the wind was from the south, but I had to make the obligatory passage thru the Wind**Sea parking lot -
Hello to Buzzy and TT, then down to The Shores - south wind, pretty junky conditions -
- BUT -
it seemed to be getting better
- SO -
I paddled-out, the waves got much better, and naturally I got the wave of the century - just ask Jack Cassidy - he said, quite correctly, that I "was riding in the eye of the hurricane!"
Yeah baby!
Then -
I left the lot, took care of a little business, and came back to The Shores - howling south wind and the White House Rights were pumping - I paddled-out thru a world class rip and surfed the WHRs by myself for an hour.
Yeah baby 2 - tomorrow should be a repeat of today!
2. Here are some more of Doug Moranville'sclassic photos of La Jolla, late sixties, and early seventies.
There are even some of ME - photo by Doug Moranville - this was a photo shoot for a "Shark Watch" wristwatch [note my right wrist - not my right and left cheeks]
