Surf - Dec 6, 2004 - 911

Apparently the surf prognosticators screwed the pooch on this one -

Anyway, The Shaws was pretty darn good - Two swell directions - No crowds [of any consequence]

About every 15 minutes or so, a  North Swell, White House Right bomb would roll thru - enjoyed by, ME of course, Buzzy and Jeff.

Even The Cove was starting to show.

Between the bombs, a more Westerly Swell offered Ortner and Comstock some good barrels - err - barrels for Ortner, and baby barrels for Comstock.

I got stuck in the Whirlpools of Death, here's an eye witness report:

" Hey Bill,
Just how long were you stuck in that rip yesterday? Best laugh I've had in years.          thanks---- "

[I think Buzzy caught at least 15 bombs before I even got close to the take-off area]

I was hoping that a certain Neptune's Corner Hottie was gonna show-up to watch the sunset, no luck on the hottie [typical for me], but I did get to photo some real stupidity.

The surf was pretty big.  Plus, by the time I got there, the tide was filling in, quickly.

A family came down for the typical WindanSea Beach photo opportunity - and even though the surf was big, the rocks were slippery, and the tide was high - they were gonna get the killer photos.

WHAT IDIOTS!!

The mom got her photo taken - she's wearing clunky shoes, holding a baby - but no problemo - even though she's only about a foot away from real trouble - then the whole family posed on the bluff [on the bluff, not in the buff] - I sure wasn't gonna dive in after them, if they had fallen into the water!

Of course, another family, with older kids, had to discover that yes, Waldo, the water is wet, and cold.

As the sun was setting, a surfer - I think a female - launched at Simmons - [she paddled-out here, where these guys were exiting the water] - apparently she was gonna join the boyfriend in the line-up.

This person could hardly paddle - she washed, virtually, due south, almost landing on the rocks.

Luckily, she made it out, almost dark, and headed for Simmons.

BUT, by the time she made it out, it was dark -

A group of us even trained a mini-spotlight on her, as she floated south - we tried to point out a way for her to get in -

Peter Lochefeldt [sp?] paddled out to try to find her, he came in south of WindanSea - no luck.

Anyway, I wasn't gonna paddle-out to look, so I called 911 - the lifeguards arrived, they searched, even the lifeguard boat and a helicoptor searched - no luck -

[The lifeguard boat guys did pick-up a guy on a pink kneeboard - he was outside of The Rock, almost into the kelp line - 6:15 PM]

Maybe she washed in by The Rock?
