I have a lot of things that have become, at least to me, much more important than surfing!
This thing, just off the press of the La Jolla Light Thursday, January 20, 2005 - UP FRONT - [pg 3]
The La Jolla Town Council is faced with a crisis - in fact a crisis so huge that they must act "... 'with all deliberate speed', a historical reference to the fight for desegregation in the South."
An issue as large as desalinization, oops, I mean desegregation - yeah baby - I gotta learn more about it -
Is the Town Council gonna do something about the POT Holes in the streets of La Jolla, or maybe work to solve some of LJ's parking problems, or maybe they're gonna think about how to ease some of the congestion on the roads, or maybe getting rid of the Seals and their protectors at the Seal Crap Pond, or, or???
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
They gotta worry about the pressure that "...is building to make the annual La Jolla Christmas Parade more inclusive of residents of differing religious and cultural backgrounds."
What an effing joke!
I'll bet that 98% of the residents of La Jolla, regardless of religion, or cultural background, don't give a rat's a** about the name of the parade!
The La Jolla Town Council is gonna send:
"... out survey on whether religious holiday should be removed from name of community event."
I wonder what % of the surveys will be returned?
Why don't they [LJ Town Council] spend their time and energy on something meaningful to ALL La Jollans?
Such as:
1. Getting rid of the fog that obscures the sunsets.
2. Charging Sanyo a license fee for fishing for surfers, and for blocking the sunset.
3. Getting rid of Yellow Hats in the line-up, and getting more Marys.
4. Encouraging more women to surf.
5. Encouraging more Wisconsin touristas.
6. Providing better food for the homeless.
7. Helping Randy get more waves at B****'s.
8. Welcoming Grant Reynolds back to the surfing scene.
The list just goes on and on!
Whew, I'm getting exhausted just thinking about the crisis...what to do, what to do?
Save the world, save the seals, save surfing, save the fillings in my teeth from pot hole trauma, more babes, less bums, save the sunsets, save Sanyo, low income housing with white water views, more red curbs, more parking -
-
OUCH -
For me anyway, Murray Galinson, chairman of the board of San Diego National Bank, said it perfectly, as quoted in The La Jolla Light:
"it should be more inclusive and not turn off large portions of the population. I think sensitivity should be the issue. We have to be a little more sensitive."
Well, Mr. Galinson, you've got me on your side, after all I am Mr. Sensitive.
Now that I've quit surfing, and I've quit being the surf photo guy, you can count on me to help you, and my brothers and sisters of the La Jolla Town Council, in any way that I can.
After all, I doubt that La Jollans have EVER faced such a crisis - oops, I do remember when the good citizens of La Jolla had to deal with the ordinance prohibiting "House For Sale" signs in front yards.
