Just in - The Honoree for the "2005 WINDANSEA HISTORICAL SURFRIDING ASSOCIATION'S VINTAGE SURFBOARD SHOW AND LUAU" is Pat Curren!

In my opinion there aren't a lot of true classic surf characters left - Pat's one of them!

You oughta come on down, on 10 Sept 05, to meet Pat, as well as many more characters, enjoy a great Luau, and see a fabulous collection of vintage surfboards under the shack - by the way, you gotta bring some $$ for your food, photos and collectable t-shirts.

If you're nice to me, you just might get a one hour pass to surf Wind**Sea without any of the traditional "Welcome to Wind**Sea" salutations -

JUST KIDDING - I'm a LJ Shores Guy, I ain't got NO influence over the Wind**Sea locals - I'm still scared of them!!

I had another great experience at the UCSD Longboard Invitational / Luau / Contest, last Sunday, 21 Aug 05.

My assignment was to man the Check-In Here Table and, at least in my opinion, I did a great job: No Tickee, err, No signed waiver - No Surfee!

[I hope I'm invited back to help-out, but I may have been a bit tough on some of the Legends, maybe I'll be invited next year, as a LEGEND??]

[A couple of my kids, Brian and Kris visited, and they were accompanied by son Eric's bride, Steph, and her friend Lindy.]

Occasionally, I made a sprint to the water's edge to see some great surfing, and one of my favorites was ripping, as he as done for 40 years or so.

I surfed with Jock Sutherland a few times in Hawaii, and then, a few years later, I remembered seeing a photo of Jock in one of the mags and I wanted to copy his casual, off the lip / stall style.

Jeff Divine photo-ed me in Baja more than 35 years ago, and I was performing my best imitation of Jock - it sucked [my surfing] of course, but at least it's on film.

I took this photo of Jock, imitating ME - JUST KIDDING, Jocko, at Sunday's event - he's surfing better now than ever - I wish I were!

Today, the 23rd, there was plenty of Arena Action - The Stars were out:


Little Mikey Meyers took the drop of a lifetime - he made it - then Le-Animal demonstrated how to navigate around Fin Breaker Reef -

E-Rock saw Le-Animal - he [E-Rock] then went vert!

Thorpe reflected about how good he USED to be!

The Groms collected a few, Eric Warren was riding a single-fin; Team Timmy was dominating the lefts; and on and on -
