Boyz:

Just heard from brother Henry that you guys are having a reunion!  MIGHT be there and come all the way from SAN FRANCISCO if I can see legendary BA in person. Otherwise, I'd “Skip” it!   (Actually, I may be in INDO, you know being the world traveler I am J J .)

Was a loyal, underpaid, underachiever at PB Surf Shop for several years during the early 70's as I recall.  I believe Gordon was involved in hiring underage teens at the time and since nobody else would take the job I was hired!

BA was in charge, nothing got done of course, and Gary really ran the show.  All I did was bikini fittings out in back, tell everyone that I knew Skip Frye and that he “shaped all my boards” and marvel at how Steve Seabold could ride those flappy eggs in even more flappy surf.

AND beat Gary in distance and height competitions on the rental bikes out in front on a ramp we built while the sewers were being redone. We'd run the stingrays as hard as we could down the slight hill starting way up at the seawall, and then fly them off the dirt mound and land them right in front of the little pump house.

It went on for about two weeks.  He'd get so pissed he'd throw his bike 20 feet after the “judge” would proclaim me the winner.

Gary hit the pump house more than once with his bike and then the city guys would come and fix the stucco.  Then, he'd do it again after the next competition.   Judges were usually Steve Seabold, (but also that tall skinny kid, um can't remember his name but it was Steve too I think !) would pronounce me the winner.

Actually, we were all skinny then!

God, it was good to beat Gary AT ANYTHING at that point.  (I'd also mercilessly beat him at ping pong at Surf Systems, but that is another story entirely.  You may recall that Gary was mostly all muscle and little finesse and it was just so fun to exploit that).

Finally, we'd retire at the Jack in the Box or go over to my grandmother's cottage where I was living nearby on Mission Bay, and ALL WHILE ON LARRY'S TIMECARDS.

Bill, if you get this, email me back. I wrote a short story and you are in it!

Needs world wide publishing AND EDITING.

You up for it?

Please forward to Larry if you can, and Larry, thanks for all the fond memories, great paychecks, and good to see you at the Legends Competition a few years back.
