The 2005 Edition of The Bill Andrews Electronic Fish Wrapper Is Still Going?

By the way, I make another cameo in the video clip featured on: Wind**Sea Beach dot com

- And -

I just landed a big shot role on: Sea Level Pressure and, after more than 50 years of La Jolla surfing humiliation and embarrassment, I've finally made it -

- you may now refer to me, instead of dick wad, a** hole, etc., as: "BA, Your Icon-ness" or maybe just BA.con, err, .com.

- AND -

Speaking of ME, here's a photo of ME, deep in the pit at Leopard Shark Point, Alabama.

A few Arena Photos starring:

Tom, Andrew, Teddy and Carter

Speaking of Tom Ortner, compare this photo, to one of him about 30 years ago - how many surfers in the world can do today, as well as, or better, than they were doing [in surfing anyway] 30 years ago??

Reunions - History - Part Uno

I started working for Gordon and Smith Surfboards a way long time ago - actually in about 1961 -

I had an on and off employment history with G&S all the way thru 1976.

In April of 1969, I managed Pacific Beach Surf Shop, for G&S, after Larry and Floyd purchased the original PB Surf Shop from the Caputes [sp?].

Anyway - next weekend, Randy Strunk, the current owner of PB Surf Shop, is hosting a G&S Reunion, and I volunteered to help out with some historical nonsense, and history re-write.

I published some info on this site about the reunion, and now, I'm hearing from some guys I haven't seen or heard from in 45 years or so.
At one time, the Gordon and Smith Surf Team, Exhibition Team, or [for lack of a better term] was probably the strongest of any in surf history, anchored by the riders of the Mike Hynson Model.

In the sixties and seventies, most of the hottest surfers in San Diego and Dana Point rode Gordon and Smith Surfboards. In fact, seeing a board other than a G&S at La Jolla Shores, Ocean Beach, or Pacific Beach was almost impossible.
I started sending lists of G&S-er names to Randy and Deborah [they're doing a great job], and I was temporarily miffed because it appeared they did not share my total stoke about the coolness of the VIP list -

But - how in the heck would most surfers of today [the G&S Surf Team was kicking a** before most contemporary surfers were born] know about these guys?

They were not the heroes in the mags or movies nor were they the nominees of the Surfer Ragazine popularity polls.

They were the men and women that made Gordon and Smith Surfboards and its accompanying Surf Team so powerful -

- AND -

Not to piss anyone off more than I usually do, there actually were G&S surfers / shapers / employees in addition to Larry Gordon, Floyd Smith, Mike Hynson and Skip Frye.

I gotta admit, I'm gonna do everything I can possibly do to ensure that those who ALSO contributed to the G&S empire get the recognition they deserve!
