These may be the last photos EVER of WindanSea Surfing -
I received an updated alert from a concerned surfer and cribbed most, if not all, from his alert -
Apparently, surfing at WindanSea may be banned because of:
[Press Release from Awesome's News and Comment]
"A large colony of Nigerian Red Banded Voodoo Water Snakes has been discovered living in the west end of the WindanSea Area Sewer Pipe [WASP] and in the Bamboo Urinal Zone [BUZ].The WindanSea Surf Club has lost a couple of members in recent weeks to these exotic, but highly poisonous sea snakes.
They are not native to the area, and are believed to have been released into the pipe approximately 8 years ago by drug lords and other contraband traffickers.
The population remained relatively undisturbed and undiscovered until the construction of The New Shack wiped out their habitat at the west end of the sewer pipe and bamboo patch.
Fiercely territorial, they are now on a rampage throughout the whole area.
Estimates have their numbers in the thousands and authorities have determined that eradication will be impossible. Please note the snake-trap which was destroyed by the Voodoo Water Snakes - these traps are made specifically for this species, and cost over $10,000 each - this trap was a test - TEST FAILED!While living undisturbed, in sewer pipes, these snakes are relatively docile, feeding on birds and fish, and the occasional rabbit or fox that ventures too close to the pipe's openings.
However, once their habitat is disturbed, and a fresh supply of sewer water is provided, they become quite voracious.
These monsters will attack and kill anything that moves - and the drag the victims back into the depths of La Jolla's most famous sewer pipe.
This is what happened to the surfers and a couple of Lot Locals [note: only a Lot Local's shoe remains] who were using the area known as The Bamboo Urinal Zone [BUZ].This aggressive behavior has also been reported by swimmers and bathers in their native lands along sewer pipes and bamboo patches. They are especially aggressive during heavy flushing, with the influx of fresh sewer water appearing to trigger the attack instinct.
These snakes seldom venture very far out to sea, usually patrolling and feeding within 100 yards of a sewer pipe outlet, so authorities aren't concerned about the spread of these snakes along the shoreline - but they are considering closing the beach -[note: the vacant beach- the only living things are 2 California Condors - searching for scaps]- to all water entry 200 yards north and south of The Shack and 200 yards offshore -[note: kite surfer well outside the 200 yard boundary line]- as a preventive measure."
