1. I always give my students a big, Welcome to La Jolla Shores, hug!
2. BA knows that chicks will dig him 'cause he surfs [thanks Alex, you're a great surfer and a darn good actress, too]
3. Because Avnish is an engineer, we discuss center of gravity, etc.,
4. I tell him not to worry about the physics of it - just jump to your feet
5. I pushed Avnish into a couple of waves which he rode on his stomach - just to get the feel of "The Ride"
6. You gotta shuffle your feet 'cause of the bottom hugging creatures [this happens to be a harmless shovelnose guitar fish - NOT a stingray]
7. I pushed Avnish into a couple of waves, he popped right up - and up right
8. Avnish then paddled into a couple of waves on his own [note he's a goofy foot, just like his instructor, BA]
9. It appears that Avnish enjoyed the experience!

Our Special Surfers' surfing ability seems to get better and better every year - while the ability of WindanSea Surf Club's highly paid team of Tinker Toy Assemblers seems to be regressing year by year - [I heard that Lego Land is offering online training courses in Tent Assembly]

A quote from Jeff Corwin [The Animal Planet host] in response to a question regarding the "...worst physical pain" he'd ever experienced: "Getting nailed by a stingray..." [From Men's Journal March 2007 pg. 142]

How ironic -
The Shores is hyped as a family friendly beach, yet it is the home to thousands of mutant, on the prowl for more victims, stingrays. If I had a family, or if I planned to enter the water, I'd find a more safe in which to splash around!

Checking-out calendar girl photo shoots is the only reason to go to The Arena [the water's always polluted, the waves always suck, and the locals are always hostile] and they [photo shoots] are allowed only once per year - you obviously missed this year's.

The Wide World of Sports made a stop today in The Arena to get a glimpse of Team Big Wave Surfing at its best:
Team Will [Team Will was one Will down, so Will recruited Red Shirt Random Guy] Vs Team Cadu

Random Red Shirt blocked for Will as well as blocked Will

Team Will was waiting for the challenge | Cadu had to defeat the shorebreak and a deadly Kelp Sea Snake

The heat's most dangerous wave was scored by Team Cadu - Team Cadu even attempted the highly difficult choreographed wave dance - but would it be enough?

After a hard fought final, the Judge's [BA] decision was unanimous - Team Will was declared the winner -

Will bowed and dove for his fans | As Team Cadu came in, they were overheard muttering:"Wait 'till next year, we're gonna bring the right equipment [calling Team BZ] for The Arena's huge waves!"

The Pacific Islanders' preparations / pig roast was the personal highlight of my day.
