The sheer stupidity of some people is astonishing to me - maybe it's not stupidity??

Maybe it's simply a total lack of awareness of one's environment?

Sometimes I feel like some sort of wildlife Photo-Eddy in the wild - am I supposed to rescue the lion's prey before the lion can kill it, or do I let nature take its course?

The day started out at 5:30 AM - top secret surf spot called LJ Shores - kindda like an early spring day - low tide - south wind - my favorite surf conditions in the entire world -

THEN - in the late afternoon:

The adventure started to take a very ugly turn - Rescue 911

First, Booger Dude washed in - kindda funny 'cause he's a young guy - and he's a Booger - he did just fine -

THEN - the girl came ashore, in a terrible place on the beach

I spotted her and her boyfriend way out in the kelp - How they got out there - who knows - all I know is that when they washed in - the girl - for a few seconds - was trapped in the cut-out in Forester Thom's Rock -

If she had come ashore during a time with a larger set of waves, with a number of waves in the set, she could have been seriously hurt.

She was VERY lucky this time!

Hopefully, both she and her boyfriend learned a valuable lesson, and maybe, just maybe, they'll pay more attention to their surroundings before they repeat their adventure in another venue - and maybe, just maybe, they'll help to educate others??

Sting rays are just another hazard in the line-up in La Jolla's dangerous waters!

Another good reason to find another pastime other than surfing in La Jolla.

There is a bright side to my friend's up close and personal sting ray encounter, at least for me: one less surfer - if only temporarily - in La Jolla's line-up. JUST KIDDING!!??

"For obvious reasons, I will not be at work today.  

The 'soak' picture was taken by this guy that I surf with sometimes – he said he was going to post this pic on his blog and make up some story that I was crying like a girl…"

"After it happened, I walked over to the showers to shower myself and my board off, then I walked over to the lifeguard tower where I soaked for ~20 minutes in hot water.  

This was obviously not long enough as when I was driving my sting-ray-stung-@$$ to work, the dulling pain was going up my leg, at which point I decided to go to Urgent Care to make sure no barbs were stuck in me…"

Grom Lucas sez: "I can't bear to look at this - BA copied my board!"

"Why would an old guy wanna ride a board [although it is a Bit, err, quite a bit larger] like mine?"
