Just in - One - Dateline The Arena:BA's Liner Notes:
Grom Joey took it for the team on his leg! A rabid Morey Eel came out of his cave deep within the bowels of Slip and Slides. The eel took dead aim on Grom Bub, but Grom Joey to the rescue.
He [Joey] offered his leg to the the toothy critter, and the eel took the bait [a dead eel washed up this morning near Slip and Slides - a visiting veterinarian said it appeared the eel died from the ingestion of Grom Skin].
All the groms owe Joey a big Thank You for his bravery! This photo of Joey's leg is only for those with a strong constitution, an iron stomach, and better yet, poor eyesight.======Just in - Two - Dateline The spacious offices of A Day With BA dot Com:
I used to wish that I had the balance to take-off on FoamBalls and stand-up. Well, I never achieved the required balance, so I kindda gave up on BallingFoam, err, FoamBalling.
- BUT -Now that I have joined the ranks of Half Men [at least I'm not a Flat Man] balance, at least in my case, is not as important as the ability to laugh at danger.
This morning I caught the FoamBall of a lifetime.
Naturally, Matt from SurfInside did not capture the moment on film, but someone actually witnessed the event - He or she sent my crack publishing team this email - Please bear in mind, we did not make-up the following email - we're not that clever - proving again that fact is stranger than fiction!
"Dear adaywithba.com publishers,
You write a lot about Foam-Ball riding and I have been working hard on it, but today I saw a master Foam-Ball rider catch arguably the best Foam-Ball wave I have ever seen.
The ride revealed the essential nature of what makes a great Foam-Ball ride and compelled me to write.
The Rider (4 key personality traits): patience, seasoned wave experience, unbridled stoke and, above all, no shame.
Wave selection: Waves cannot be breaking top to bottom - must pick a roller with maximum foam depth. Best waves break midway down the face.
The Setup (critical): line up slightly inside everyone else and paddle like a little-girl.
The Ride: Hold on and make it out the bottom.
Today the undeniable Foam-Ball Master of Southern California showed how it was down. Planting himself squarely in the way of the pack, he turned too late to get into the wave swelling behind him, so the wave pitched and
rolled weakly just underneath his position.
His half-hearted paddle left him trailing behind the ball, but with a surge in the wave, the foam ball thickened propelling him deep into the ball from behind the peak. Most onlookers assumed he would pop-up flailing, board flopping and screaming for rescue as usual.
But he preserved.
Moments later he was squeezed out the bottom of the ball like a pimple, arms raised in a triumphant claim of victory.
daywithba.com readers, if you ever get a chance to watch this Foam-Ball Master, William Andrews of La Jolla
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Andrews ),
DO NOT pass it up."

AM The Shores and the day after the Children's, err, the Seal Pool Cleanup EffortsBA
- PLUS -
I owe the volunteers who spent hours on Saturday cleaning-up crapola at Seal Crapola Pool a big apology - and I have another of my lame excuses:
I took about 200 digital photos of your clean-up efforts at the Seal Pool on Saturday. The last photo I took was of the Harpy who, I guess, is one of many who are responsible for the change of Children's Pool to the Seal Crapola Pool - Maybe if hadn't taken her photo, my photo card would not have self destructed - Anyway - you guys did a great job - Thank you for all of your efforts - and I hope you took long hot showers and doused yourselves with disinfectant after you left the party - by the way - who won the award for finding the largest, most fossilized seal t**d?It's pretty hard to argue facts against emotions - good luck - and I hope Debbie's Plan works out as some sort of compromise.

A. You are not ready to mix it up with the guys on the outside.1. If you do choose to sit inside, you gotta be prepared to stay out of the way of surfers sitting outside of you. They will be catching bigger, and perhaps, much more critical waves than you will on the inside. It doesn't matter if you're sitting inside or attempting to get out of the way of the surfers already riding the wave...you're just an obstacle [speed bump / buoy] to the completion of their ride.
B. You like the inside because maybe you can catch more waves.

In defense of Taylor's [and my] photo skills, or lack thereof - The "Auto-Focus" gizmo in my camera and / or lens, is not working - so one has gotta manually focus the stupid camera - it ain't easy.BA's Photos Album 1 - Starring: Sunrise - The Arena | Sunrise - The Shores
Additionally, Taylor is 16 years old, and obviously, his interests, unlike mine, have a tendency to drift away from the task at hand - The TASK: Taking thousands of out of focus and under / overexposed surfing [ONLY] photos -I guess the ability to stay [manually] focused is what separates the true pros [like I am] from the amateurs [like Taylor is]?

REMOVE the worst from the worst, upload the balance - this BA method of editing is far easier than trying to KEEP the best of the worst - after all, photo storage is cheap, and I've learned how to pad my hit count [as if the hit count were important]Buried somewhere in the photos below, is a way far from home member of the Pittsburgh Hells Angels and the injury of the day - waaa, another near death experience for BA.

By the way - one -I ran into Retiree Mike and I discussed my timeline with him. My dates are totally dorked, so I gotta start taking notes again of names, faces, and dates.Great to see you in the Arena Line-up Reed!
[I thought, almost 50 years ago, that an El Spantaneo, Quasimoto, Dead Cockroach, Reverse Coffin, Hang Ten, Drop-Knee Turn, were the apex surfing maneuvers - today's Arena surfers are performing maneuvers that I couldn't have even imagined, much less drawn with my primitive stick figures when I was day dreaming away my days at La Jolla Junior Senior High School]I'm sure that anyone who suffers thru the experience of reading my daily dribble about how proud and honored I am to still be even a minor part of La Jolla Surfing Community, must be ready to jump off the cliff at Black's, but I just gotta say it - WHEW - glad I'm still doing it, considering some of the other, more long term, options.
