When I was I grom, err, gremmie, more than - GASP - 50 years ago, I probably did some water related activities which led to a bit of maternal gray hair and paternal baldness.

My mom still talks about the time I was picked up [age 15] by a Coast Guard helicopter off The Cove [my first, and very unpleasant attempt at riding The Cove] and deposited in the vacant lot by our house at The Shores.

Luckily she never saw me jumping off the rocks in La Jolla, or rowing out to the canyon in the leaky boat we kept at the Boat Launch - some of the water we bailed we put into a bucket which served as a reasonably effective live bait tank -

At 12 years old, we fished for sharks at the edge of the canyon - kindda like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn would have done.

Anyway, I survived - somehow - and maybe - just maybe - those accumulated experiences helped me out many times over as I matured??

I know that things are always changing, but 40 years or so from now, will the grom spawn, of today's groms, be able to enjoy La Jolla, not as I did, but as their own parents did?
