AM PhotosWhen Passion Trumps Common Sense:
As far back as I can remember, the squid have surfaced at the edge of the canyon to spawn.BA
The local fishermen capitalized on the spawn for yellowtail and white seabass - squid was the bait - the reward was boat loads of fresh fish
Now, the day the spawn begins, the commercial boats are on the spawn, and in the past few years, the kayak eddies have joined the mix
Above photo is from February of this year - despite out of focus photo - even I can spot the yakkers.
Today same event - spawning squid - but no commercial boats in sight - I wonder why?
MAYBE BECAUSE THE WIND WAS BLOWING ONSHORE AT 30 - 40 MILES PER HOUR AT 5:00 AM!!
When passion trumps common sense?
I didn't recognize any of the fishermen - so I guess I don't have to personally apologize for the photos of the start and finish of their day
By the way - I started fishing off my surfboard in the late 1950's and I still fish off my kayak [catch and release only]
AND I have had my share of drama on the high seas [Surfer Magazine story by Ron Stoner]
I don't know what the final tally of capsized kayaks was for the morning - and even I am not such an whole ass that I would want a drowning [maybe a near drowning for a lesson learned?]

Wednesday we had our monthly meeting - new members.More random notes - The Contest:
When The Club was started - way back in 1962 - the goal was to have the best surfers in the world as members - lofty goal - I think we achieved it then!
I looked around the hall on Wednesday, almost 50 years later, and even though most of the members were not in attendance, I know the goal is still being met!
The new members certainly added to The Club's credibility: Dawn, Shane, Shade, Malik, Brandon, Zac, and Ricky.
WHAT A MOST IMPRESSIVE FRESHMAN CLASS!
My engineering side shudders when the day begins in chaos - but somehow, someway, just as the tide always rises, and the waves always hit a beach somewhere - The Club volunteers ALWAYS pull-off the seemingly impossible task of getting the contest started, completed, awards and raffles passed out, and, additionally, throw a great party into the mix.BA
TEAM WINDANSEA IS MOST IMPRESSIVE!

As usual - 700 photos and about 3 keepers - Somehow the color blue invaded my art [or lack thereof] and created a code blue in my palatial office - BLUE MYSTERY SOLVED - THANKS TO DOUG MORANVILLE: "YOUR WHITE BALANCE [WB] IS SET WRONG!"BAAM Photos 1 | AM Photos 2 | AM Photos 3 | AM Photos 4 | AM Photos 5 | AM Photos 6 | AM Photos 7 | AM Photos 8 | AM Photos 9 | AM Photos 10 | AM Photos 11Oh well - blue blows - but maybe 20 years from now, cordon bleu on blue will be the new natural?
