"Yesterday is History - Tomorrow is a Mystery - And Today is a Gift..." |

Wind**Sea this morning - 53 degree water | La Jolla Shores - 65 degree waterBA
I heard the locals were eating their own today at a top secret surf spot in Uptown La Jolla.BA
I'm easily intimidated by the reefs' hostile locals - I'm sticking to The Shores, where I'll have plenty of backup in case...

Another nice day in January in AntarcticaBA
You gotta be kidding me - full suits in the middle of August?
AM More Lousy Water Photos - Hostile Locals Include: Forester Thom | Despos Escapee Bonner Boy | Jeff and FT Split Peak | Ditch [the guy with the weird last name]If one wanted to compare / contrast the "public image" of the surfing lifestyle, attending Sacred Craft and the ASR Show should be mandatory.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good!BA
My friend Phil Swink, another long time La Jolla Shores local, along with Scot and Teddy The Plumber, was chased out of La Jolla Shores a couple of weeks ago by the mutant stingrays.
He migrated to Tourmaline - he gives Wind**Sea a very wide berth.
Anyway, I was lucky to snap a photo of Phil on a death defying wave at Tourmo North.
When Phil came in, instead of raving about the wave he had just ridden, he was almost in tears - he appeared to be devastated.
I said: "Hey Phil, I think I got a photo of your on that huge wave - I bet you're happy you survived!"
Phil said: "That wave was the most gnarly wave I've ever ridden, but on the take-off, the lip ripped my wedding band off.
What am I gonna tell Tif?"
I had no answer.
Happy Ending
I received a call from Jon Boland, another hard core La Jolla Shores local, and he said he had just dropped off, at El Pescador,
a load of rockcod he had captured bare handed at Tourmaline.
He said one of the fish apparently had swallowed something, and thought I might be interested in taking a photo of "it."
I dug thru the still dangerous jaws of the rockcod and found a wedding band - matching the description of Phil's lost ring.
I called Phil, and happily, the lord of the ring and finger have been connected again.

Global Warming, created by George Bush, may have claimed another victim!BA
In the words of the very polite and gentle locals at La Jolla Shores: "BA, BA some really tan, and mean guy from the Wind**Sea area has been picking on us lately!"
"We are terrified of him, when the giant close-outs catch us at Archie's he yells at us to GO!"
"We don't have his bravado nor his surfing skills, but now, we ALMOST feel a bit sorry for him, word is he's caught the deadly Global Warming disease of elephantiasis."
"Have you seen him lately, have you taken a photo?"
