I'm not sure when one becomes a surfing legend - but - in my opinion - the starting point is when their surfing is considered "classic" / "timeless".

One of the greatest movies ever created - Tentacles - was based on true events of 1977, when a rabid Octo-Squid snatched, and ate, tourists from the sidewalk at Boomer.

Unfortunately, another killer has emerged from the Pacific - The Giant Killer Crab of La Jolla Shores - another reason, besides the hostile locals, flesh eating ocean pollutants, and terrible waves to eliminate La Jolla from your bucket list of places to surf before you croak!

Remember kids, Number 98 is way beyond your surfing ability.
