It's been a rough year so far for the denizens of Barrio La Jolla; global warming - global cooling - tidal waves - no waves - and so on.
Team Harbor Seal Hunters had a chance for a real meal their families - with a bonus of some hide for their Ugg Boots which were in need of a hot patch or two.
Danny The Harbor Seal showed up in the lineup at Squires' Reef - David missed him, Sasha and Scotty had their chance, also, but they ran into each other as they attempted the Harbor Seal Squeeze on Danny
I have always wanted to do a 360 degree Reverse Hot Curl - This death defying maneuver was first accomplished by Crazy Jim Fisher in 1958 - Subsequently I have tried since 1958 to copy the maneuver -
My attempts usually ended up with a 2 degree face plant - Fortunately I found a top secret reef break in La Jolla's most squalid barrio and to my amazement, David - Hot Curl - Squires was out at his personal break and despite his posse's attempt at enforcing his No Photos - No Naming Spots, I was able to get away with this photo - certainly worth a cover appearance on either Surfer Mag or Cirque Du Soleil program!

AM Photos Include --> Craftmanship admired by a true craftsman, Larry CrowThere ain't many craftsmen in the known surf world who can glass [opaque white] pinline and finish like the quality displayed on this Lopez gun ~ 1971?

Way back in the fifties, 1950's not 1850's, I thought the coolest thing in surfing was when the Crystal Pier Guys visited The Shores, Mike Hynson in particular, would paddle out and stand up going thru the waves, cigarette hanging from their lips -
My mom would have killed me if she saw me smoking, but I wanted to master standing up going thru the waves - 1/2 is better than 0/2
[I actually almost mastered the stand up thru the wave / paddle out]
However, as good as the PB Guys were, Never - Never did they levitate off their boards on the way out -
Emma of course, wouldn't think of smoking, but, not only does she stand up over waves on the way out, she takes it to the next level by JUMPING over them - what a clever way to stay dry on the paddle out!
