Fire Ring : Other Stuff

Burn Baby, Burn

There is something cathartic, at least for me, in the burning of "stuff."

The fire rings at La Jolla Shores have been, since the 1960's, a place where I could burn certain things...

I'm pretty sure that papers, when they're reduced to ashes, are illegible at best.

During my half-hearted attempts at avoiding the draft in the late sixties, on the advice of The Bear, I burnt some draft related papers - didn't help - still got drafted, but I didn't have to serve [son Brian was born 22 June 1969]

My relations with women have usually been very long term, in fact I think I've spent almost all of my adult life either married or in a relationship that was virtually the same [as being married]

When I think about how much I wanted these relationships to last forever, I also think about how hard the break-up was.

Kindda made me feel as if I were caught inside at the North Peak at Black's on a 20 foot day - and the paddle-out lasted for months, rather than minutes - lottsa pain, no pleasure.

A few years ago, I went thru a divorce, and luckily, for me, it wasn't nearly as traumatic as I expected -

I'm convinced that because I fire-ringed a reminder of the marriage, I got thru the paddle-out period very easily - not a lot of fun - but at least it didn't make my heart pound, and give me that drowning feeling.
