Intro to BA's Fire Ring Crapola
When I was a kid -
"Oh no - is BA gonna wax nostalgic again - jeeze he was actually quiet for almost a week!"
- the beachfront fire ring was our Oracle at Delphi.
Whoops, I forgot - most of you little surf rats don't know how to read, and I'm pretty sure you think that a Delphi is either a nightclub, a new SUV, or some rap group on MTV.
Just as Delphi was considered to be the center of the world, our little surf world's Delphi was a La Jolla Shores fire ring.
Sometimes our Delphi would be visited by older surf guys, usually from the WindanSea area.
We would never ask questions about stuff, but we would listen to these older / wiser guys talk, sometimes in very cryptic terms about people / life / surfing.
I was never able to separate fiction / fact from fire ring bravado - what did I know about "sex, drugs," or even "rock and roll?"
Now - some 55 years or so after my introduction to life via the fire ring, I've started paying attention to fire ring lessons - again -
"BA - you've been old forever - why don't you just go to the Old Surfers' Home and dribble Pablum down your chin?"
You're right - but being old[er] does have some advantageous, or so I've heard??
"Yeah, right again, now you get senior discounts at Denny's and you can join the AARP!"
Anyway - enough of this stuff, it's time to move on to my opportunity to be the "preacher" rather than being part of the "choir."
By the way - you ain't forced to read this junk, or to even listen to me - why don't you just go away and let me surf in peace!
